This improvised piece
represents America and the values of diversity, inclusion, and creativity in
the face of adversity. The fabric comes from local shops across the country –
some scrap fabric and some treasured prints. Representing the varying shades of
this country’s people and the spectrum of opinions we hold dear, it symbolizes
how our country is greatest when the pieces work together. It has flaws, but in
it I see many communities sharing stories and learning from each other. Most importantly, like America, it remains a work
in progress
